There are certain things you should check every month in order to keep your Mazda Zoom-Zooming to its potential. Follow this guide to extend the life of your investment.
Check oil
- When checking the oil level, make sure your car’s on level ground. The engine should be warm; however, if you’ve just been driving, wait a few minutes.
- Remove the dipstick and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth. Reinsert fully and remove after three seconds to check the oil level.
- If it’s at the low end of the indicator, top-up your oil using the grade specified in your owner manual. To ensure engine longevity, Mazda recommends using Genuine Mazda Engine Oils. Be careful not to overfill.
Note: Checking the oil on a Mazda3 or Mazda6 Diesel
- It is common for the oil level to increase above the “F” (full) mark. If the level approaches or exceeds the “X”, which is the highest mark on the dipstick, the oil will need to be replaced.
- Mazda recommends using an authorised Mazda Service Centre to change your oil, as the M-MDS (Mazda Modular Diagnostic System) equipment must be used to reset the engine control system whenever the oil is replaced.
Check washer fluid
- Fill the washer bottle with clean water, adding the recommended amount of windscreen washer additive
- Don’t use household detergents as they can damage paintwork and wiper blades.
- Consult your Mazda Service representative about which type of washer additive is best for your car.
Check coolant
- First, check the coolant level in the plastic reservoir. It should be between the high and low marks
- Next, check the radiator. The engine must be cool before you remove the radiator cap. If it’s low, top-up with the same coolant recommended in your owner’s manual.
- If your Mazda is losing coolant, there may be a leak and you should see your Mazda Service Centre urgently.
Check lights
- Test headlights on low and high beam. Check your indicators, plus your reversing, parking, brake and number plate lights.
- The best way to check the rear stop, reverse and indicator lights is with the help of someone else or by looking back into a reflective surface, like a window.
- If you find an inoperative light, see your Mazda Service Centre immediately.
Check windscreen wipers
- Check the condition of your wiper blades. If they’re starting to perish, replace them with Genuine Mazda blades. Your Mazda Service Centre can fit them for you.
Remember: these checks should be carried out every single month. Happy motoring!
