Prominent Sydney Mazda dealer, Eurocars Mazda, sold a record 51 cars in seven days during the second last week of the 2007-2008 financial year.
Eurocars Mazda Dealer Principal, Tim Garner, said the record week represented almost double the average number of weekly sales and was a result of the traditional end-of-financial-year rush and high petrol prices.
“We usually average 25 to 30 cars each week, but as the end of the financial year approaches, people begin assessing their cars, particularly if they use them for business purposes, and we usually see a sales spike as a result,” Mr Garner said.
“However, this year’s end of financial year sales increase was particularly big, and I think that’s due to the additional factor of high petrol prices.”
Sydney drivers have been paying as much as $1.70 per litre over the past few months, as the world oil price continues to rise to record levels beyond $140 a barrel.
“People are genuinely concerned about petrol prices and they’re out there doing something about it,” Mr Garner said.
“They’re selling or trading in their large cars for more fuel-friendly cars like the Mazda 3, which has exceptional fuel economy at 6.0 litres per 100km.
“Over the past three months, buyer demand for the Mazda 2 and Mazda 3, which are the smallest cars in the Mazda range, has been very strong. Of the 51 vehicles we sold in our record week, 22 of them were Mazda 3 models - that’s almost 50% of our sales, which is quite extraordinary.”
Mazda State Manager, Vinish Bhindi, visited the Eurocars Mazda showroom in Artarmon on Sydney’s Lower North Shore to personally congratulate the team on their record sales week.
