Six researchers from Mazda Headquarters in Japan have been recognised at the 59th Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan annual awards presentation.
Mazda researcher, Motonori Ishibashi, and his co-authors received the Outstanding Technical Paper Award for their discussion paper entitled ‘Characterizing indices of driving style and their relevance to car following behaviour’.
A team of Mazda researchers - Kouichiro Harada, Hiroshi Yamada, Hiroki Fujita, Kenji Okamoto and Akihide Takami, won the Technological Development Award for their invention of Mazda’s high performance particulate burning catalyst.
The catalyst features an internal structure enabling stored oxygen to move around more freely. Oxygen increases the rate of combustion of soot in exhaust gases, resulting in less fuel being required by Mazdas to burn off the soot and cleaner exhaust gases.
