Work or play, Mazda BT-50 delivers a load of power. New generation 2.5 and 3.0 litre DOHC, 16 valve turbo diesel engines feature advanced common-rail direct injection with a variable geometry turbocharger and large intercooler for optimum turbo performance and durability.
Put simply this all means BT-50 engines are responsive and refined, with plenty of pulling power right through the rev range. This flat torque curve makes towing and carrying heavy loads a cinch, at the same time giving you instant acceleration. The precise combustion of common-rail injection also means you’ll go further between fills and helps cut emissions.
The 5-speed manual transmission is made tough to work with the powerful engines. With triple-cone synchronisers on first and second gears, it delivers smooth, crisp shifting. The 5-speed automatic transmission (optional on 4×4 Dual Cab SDX) features closely-spaced ratios and precise electronic control of shifting. Acceleration and economy are maximised as a result.
BT-50 is built to take the rough stuff while treating you to a smooth ride. The tough independent double wishbone front suspension has been designed to reduce harshness on unmade roads. At the rear axle, large leaf springs maximise ride comfort and durability. Big shock absorbers feature all-round and are built to take the punishment. They also give BT-50 a car-like ride.
